“Town” was inspired by the drawing technique of hatching and HDR photography. It takes how edges in a scenery can be represented or enhanced by darkening one side and lightening another to an extreme; every edge in this painting is between white and black. This creates an image that both retains and loses its depth; which oscillates between the flat and the three-dimensional. The end result is a petrified townscape, as if all buildings were built of stone, with the walls devoid of features, creating an eerie but eternal landscape that is both familiar and alien.
